Fantastic Flutes
Autism Friendly Concert

Sunday 30th July, 11am-12pm
This concert/workshop will be run by classical flautist and workshop leader Emily Correa Andrews, who will perform beautiful music on various flutes and other instruments in her collection, in a fun, explorative and interactive way. There will be listening pieces, chances for questions and discussion, opportunities to explore or look at instruments close up, opportunities to have a go on some instruments (not the flutes for sanitary reasons!).

Absolutely everyone is welcome, but we are making this concert especially autism-friendly and hope many families with autistic or special needs members will feel confident to come along and give this a go.

This concert is FREE to attend and does not need reserving in advance. Just turn up. There will be an opportunity to make a optional donation to the Festival at the end if you are able to, to help us cover costs and put on more events like this!

What does "autism friendly" mean for a concert?

In a word, non-judgemental.

There is no expectation of how you should behave as an audience member/ participant in this concert, and no judgement. If you want to sing, sing. If you want to dance, dance. Nobody will mind if you make a noise, have a meltdown, run around, or come right up close (or stay far away). And if you need any help or we can improve your experience in any way, just tell us.

1) You can choose where to sit or stand and move around to another spot whenever you like
2) The concert will be non-amplified
3) There will be some sensory toys/ objects around to examine or play with if you like
4) Interaction and activities will be optional

We have created a toolkit to help you prepare for this concert, including:
1) a downloadable Social Story
2) a video of Emily herself speaking and explaining the concert in the setting where we hope it will be, as well as playing one of the pieces from the concert for you on her flute
3) Another photo of the setting we will move to if it is raining (I'm sorry we can't control the weather but we can plan and prepare for both venues!)

If there is anything else you would like us to provide for you, please get in touch and tell us!
